Earn Your Medical Coding Certificate at Peirce College

Our Medical Coding Certificate program equips students with the skills necessary to review patients’ medical records and assign numeric codes for each diagnosis and procedure. Coding accuracy impacts billing and the revenue cycle as well as outcomes reporting activities.

Health Information Management principles serve as the basis of our Medical Coding Certificate program, in which students learn about medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, ICD coding, CPT coding, health information and delivery systems, healthcare reimbursement methods and healthcare legal and compliance issues. As a student, you'll also complete a Professional Practice Experience (PPE) that will expose you to a minimum of 40 hours of authentic coding using a logic-based encoder.

Medical coding specialists fulfill essential business duties at hospitals, doctors offices and insurance companies to ensure that everything runs smoothly.  They are responsible for coding health services correctly to make sure that everything is documented, the right bills are sent out and the right payment is received. And with the projected growth in healthcare jobs, skilled professionals are needed more than ever.

Peirce College can prepare you to take advantage of these opportunities with our Medical Coding classes. Our practical, hands on curriculum gives you the knowledge you need to succeed in the healthcare industry.

As a medical coding student, you’ll learn how to use the ICD-10 coding system, study medical terminology, and understand how health information systems work so you can hit the ground running on day one on the job. You’ll also be eligible to sit for the AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist exam, making you even more valuable to employers.

And because our healthcare programs are stackable, once you complete the medical coding program, you can continue your studies in our Health Information Technology associate degree program and then into our Health Information Administration bachelor’s degree program. You can even continue from there on to our Healthcare Administration master's degree program!

Courses are offered in online and hybrid formats.
