LEAD IN BUSINESS: Our Men in Leadership event will cover issues that speak to men today and how those issues impact their lives. |
Peirce’s annual Women in Leadership panel discussion is one of our most popular events. After seeing the positive response from the community, many of our male students thought it would be great to add another event that fosters leadership, covers issues that speak to them, and focuses on how those issues impact their lives. So with the hard work of our Student Leadership Program, we’re happy to introduce our first Men in Leadership event, which will be completely facilitated by men here at the College.
The Men in Leadership event will be held on April 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in rooms 51 and 52 and is free for Peirce students. The workshops will help prepare attendees for their academic and career journeys and provide the opportunity to network. Each attendee can choose to attend two of the following workshops:
- Networking and Business Etiquette. Even the most skilled business professional might pick up something new from this workshop. We’ll cover how to network in any setting, the do’s and don’ts of professional attire, and how to prepare for new business trends.
- Chartering Your Career and Preparing for the Next Step. How can you make decisions in your career now that you can build on down the road? This session will cover the topic of chartering your career, as well as how to structure a strong, current resume that represents you, your experience, and your goals.
- Man Up to Your Health and Wellness. Wellness and nutrition are very important for men. This workshop will talk about health and how it impacts you as a student, community member, and employee. The conversation will cover the importance of exercise, annual checkups, and hygiene, as well as how to reduce stress in your school, job, or community. We’ll also open the floor up to attendees to talk about any health concerns and issues they might want to discuss.
- I Am a Man. It can be hard to admit, but male images and stereotypes play a significant role in many students’ self-image. We’ll talk about what it means to be a male in today’s society, and how societal pressures dictate attitudes, behaviors, thoughts, and responsibilities.
Each workshop will have panelists that include Peirce students, alumni, faculty and staff, and community members. Our guest speaker will be Mr. Jim Smith, Jr., an author, personal power speaker, trainer, and consultant. He’s the author of the best-selling book, “The No Excuse Guide to Success: No Matter What Your Boss or Life Throws at You.” The book has been nominated for the 2013 NAACP Image Awards for the “Literary Work – Instructional” category. Our master of ceremonies will be Dr. Patrick Coyle, Associate Professor, Information Technology here at Peirce.
We’re excited to offer a new event with workshops where male students can relate one-on-one and open up about major issues. Attendees should be able to walk away with new or strengthened leadership skills, a few new professional connections, and confidence in the potential they have to be great students and leaders in their jobs and communities.
If you’re interested in attending our Men in Leadership event, please RVSP to Margie Pannell at MrPannell@Peirce.edu or (215) 670-9221. We can’t wait to see you there!
