STUDENT SPEAKER: Elsarra, our 2013 Commencement Student Speaker,
is pictured here in 2011 accepting the Business Administration
Scholarship with President Mergiotti cheering her on.

Every Peirce student has a unique story that brought them here and inspired them to earn their college degree. International student Elsarra Elamin, who grew up in both Sudan and Zimbabwe, will be sharing hers this year as our 2013 Commencement student speaker.

Elsarra will be graduating with dual bachelor’s degrees – one in Business Administration with a concentration in Management, where she’ll graduate cum laude, and one in Accounting, where she’ll graduate magna cum laude.

While studying at Peirce, Elsarra received the honor of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and is a member of the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business.

We thought you’d like to get to know Elsarra a bit better, so we asked her to answer a few questions for you.

Why did you decide to come to Peirce?

I was looking for a college that could give me an environment that was favorable with my age as well as my major. Peirce was able to give me that because I was surrounded with enthusiastic, mature, working adult students. I could learn from these students career wise through their various job experiences. We share similar goals that made it easier to focus, learn, and complete our degree programs.

What has the experience been like?

My experience goes far beyond just learning in the classroom. I was able to grow mentally and emotionally. One of the most important experiences was the unlimited support that I received throughout my Peirce journey from my advisor, professors, Peirce staff, and fellow students.

What was your most memorable experience at Peirce?

[My] most memorable experience was winning the Business Administration Scholarship

Have you connected with any professors or faculty members?

I have had the privilege of meeting amazing professors throughout my journey. Some of the professors have continued to keep in contact with me, and this really showed the dedication and commitment they give to their students. My advisor has been my rock and she helped me through every step of my journey.

What did it feel like to be named student speaker?

I really did not expect to be selected. When I found out I had been chosen I was honored to be the student speaker. The opportunity has given me a chance to not only share my story, but to be able to share my thoughts on certain life aspects.

What are you most looking forward to on Commencement day?

I am looking forward to sharing my speech and having my family’s support during Commencement.

What are your plans for after Commencement?

I would like to start a job, gain experience, and then proceed toward earning my MBA.

We’re all excited that Elsarra was selected to be our 2013 student speaker, and look forward to hearing her speech at Commencement!
