Don’t Miss Out! Move Your Career Forward This Fall

The beginning of the school year is a great time to build your career! This fall, Career Development Services (CDS) welcomes new and returning students with a full slate of workshops and events. In addition to resume writing workshops and mock interviews for job seekers, CDS has tailored four new tracks for professionals at all levels. Discover which program best fits your current career goals and how CDS can help you today!

CAREER ESSENTIALS: As a professional, you need a solid portfolio to effectively market your skills and experience. In Career Essentials workshops, you will get hands-on practice interviewing, planning a job search and crafting the perfect resume and cover letter. Additionally, continue developing your resume, cover letter, interview skills and more beyond these workshops by stopping in on Walk-In Wednesdays! No appointments necessary. Fall sessions and dates include:

  • Friday, September 22 – Resumes That Open Doors
  • Thursday, November 16 – Cover Letters: Targeted Documents for Clear Results
  • Thursday, December 7 – Acing the Phone Interview

CAREER DISCOVERY: Are you looking for new ideas for your next career move? Are you wondering how you might connect your hobbies, interests or even your values to your day job? The Career Discovery series provides tools and step-by-step guides for both emerging and second-career professionals who are interested in learning more about career development – and themselves. Sessions include:

  • Thursday, October 19 – Next Steps in Higher Ed: Is Law School Right for You?
  • Thursday, December 14 – Transferable Skills: Make Sure What You’re Learning Will Advance Your Career

CAREER CHANGERS: This dynamic series is designed for students and alumni intending on reaching the next level as professionals. If you are transitioning into a new professional role (or plan to transition soon), Career Changers workshops will reveal the behind-the-scenes mechanics of getting hired at target companies and will show you the skills needed to establish yourself once you start your new role. Don’t miss out on the first session:

  • Thursday, October 26 – Salary Negotiations: Techniques for Getting What You’re Worth

CAREER ADVANCEMENT: Designed for both mid-career and executive-level professionals, the Career Advancement series will provide hands-on opportunities to explore essential workplace skills, troubleshoot work-related issues and generate personalized strategies for professional development. In 2017-18, each session will focus on one of the five components of Emotional Intelligence: self-regulation, social skills, self-awareness, motivation and empathy. Fall sessions include:

  • Thursday, October 5 – Accountability That Works
  • Thursday, November 30 – Hard Conversations Made Easy

SPECIAL EVENTS: In addition to providing targeted workshops, CDS is hosting a Student Welcome Night on Thursday, September 14, and is teaming up with student associations across the college to present the Student Association Meet and Greet on Thursday, September 28.

Campus Philly, a CDS partner, is also hosting a Career Launch Series that features SPARK Philly (Oct. 3), Online Job & Internship Week (Oct. 23-27), Create-adelphia (Oct. 24) and Leadership Connection (Nov. 14).
