Moving the Needle: Where does your compass point?
Have you ever caught yourself in a daydream where you were fixing a problem, helping those in need, or inventing the next big thing? Then you awaken to the thought of, “Where do I begin?” or “I wish I could…”
On Tuesday, October 8th at 5:30pm, you can get the answers to those questions and move those dreams seamlessly into reality.
In collaboration with Philadelphia’s Minority Enterprise Development Week (MED Week), Peirce College is proud to host Moving the Needle: Where does your compass point? This event aims to help attendees gain clarity on their future goals and move the needle toward business, social and community, and other forms of entrepreneurship through discussion and networking with experts from around the Greater Philadelphia area. The presenters joining us will share personal stories of success and challenges in a panel setting, and more intimate, smaller break-out sessions.
The panelists include:
Shandai Jenkins, Founder & CEO of the R.E.F.U.G.E. Hub, Inc. Shandai’s organization is focused on developing outreach programs in communities in need as well as supporting families and individuals who struggle to make ends meet. Shandai has a long track record of entrepreneurship in the community setting and looks forward to sharing perspectives during the event. Not only does Shandai bring her community experience to the event, she also brings knowledge of Peirce – yes, she is an Alumna!
Iresha Picot, Local Representative and Social Fellow for Girltrek. Girltrek encourages women in nearly 100,000 neighborhoods to use walking as a way to fit fitness into their lives. Iresha’s work is centered around Black Feminism, Birth, Prison Abolitionism and Behavior and Mental Health. In addition to her work with Girltrek, Iresha is a Licensed Behavior Specialist and Therapist, Doula and Community Activist.
Sonia Lewis, CEO and Founder of The Student Loan Doctor LLC. Sonia is considered the people’s expert for all matters related to student loan debt repayment. The Student Loan Doctor LLC has been recognized as the first African American and woman owned student loan repayment company in the country. The business has also received two citations by the City of Philadelphia because of the business’s impact within the Philadelphia community.
In addition to the panelists, Iola Harper, the Deputy Director of Commerce for the City of Philadelphia, who runs the Office of Economic Opportunity, will be the Keynote Speaker providing insight into her work as well as elevating the MED Week mission. Iola is a nationally-recognized, award-winning advocate for small business and urban neighborhoods and was named one of Philadelphia’s most influential women by the NAACP.
The event is sure to inspire, motivate, and provide guidance to all who attend.
Where DOES your needle point? How will you make a difference? Even the most successful entrepreneurs start with the same questions, but the difference is they move from “I wish I could…..” to “Look what I did!”
