Notice Regarding Data Security Incident

At Peirce College, protecting the privacy of personal information is of the utmost importance.

Peirce College recently learned that an unauthorized individual may have obtained access to a limited number of Peirce College employee email accounts between February 13, 2020 and February 16, 2020. Peirce College immediately launched an investigation in consultation with outside cybersecurity professionals who regularly investigate and analyze these types of situations to analyze the extent of any compromise of the email accounts and the security of the emails and attachments contained within them. Peirce College devoted considerable time and effort to determine what information was contained in the affected email accounts. Based on its comprehensive investigation and document review, which concluded on August 6, 2020, Peirce College discovered that the compromised email account(s) contained a limited amount of personal information, including full names and one or more of the following: Social Security numbers, social insurance numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, credit or debit card information, bank account information, usernames and passwords for one or more online accounts, digital signatures, medical treatment information, medical diagnostic information, health insurance identification numbers and biometric information. Not all affected individuals had each of these data points impacted.

To date, Peirce College has no evidence that any of the information has been misused. On September 4, 2020, Peirce College notified those potentially affected via U.S. Mail to the extent it had a last known home address. Notified individuals have been provided with best practices to protect their information. Credit monitoring services have been offered to individuals whose Social Security numbers were impacted.

Peirce College is committed to maintaining the privacy of personal information in its possession and has taken many precautions to safeguard it. Peirce College continually evaluates and modifies its practices and internal controls to enhance the security and privacy of personal and protected health information.
