Combining Business And Technology For A Successful Career

Making a difference in the workplace increasingly depends on integrating technology and business. And as the sophistication and impact of technology grows, that integration becomes more challenging and more complex. Individuals with a solid foundation in both technology and business can have a real impact in all types and sizes of organizations.

This month we highlight Peirce’s Bachelor of Science in Technology Management as the program feature of the month to showcase an attractive option for students who have already earned significant college credits elsewhere and wish to put them to productive use earning a bachelor’s degree combining business and technology.

Organizations can have the best, most advanced technology available, but if it isn’t leveraged to advance business objectives, that technology’s potential is being wasted. Likewise, if an organization offers the finest product or service around, but can’t leverage technology for efficiency, analysis and insight, it is unlikely to flourish. This is when organizations look for employees who are able to assist in combining business needs with advancements in technology.

While Peirce’s degree in Information Technology proudly focuses on hands-on experience, diving deeply into specific applications and technologies, the Technology Management program takes a different track, focusing on higher-level skills like project management, systems analysis and data management. These are combined with coursework in business areas like organizational dynamics, accounting and management.

This approach can be ideal both for students who have already worked “in the trenches” in information technology and wish to target managerial positions or to move outside of the IT organization, as well as those who desire a career focused on analyzing the technology needs of a business or integrating technologies into organizations.

Because the Technology Management curriculum includes 30 credits of free elective coursework, students can custom tailor their studies to their particular interests and ambitions. Additionally, those who have earned previous college credits can put up to 30 of them to use irrespective of whether they were for a technology-related degree or not.

Today’s employees and leaders need a digital focus. Peirce’s Bachelor of Science in Technology Management program offers the flexibility and relevance to empower students to build a career to meet that need.
