Delaware County Alumni, Peirce College Student, Future Accountant – Meet John Cusato
Shortly after John Cusato graduated from Ridley High School in 2011, he started as a freshman at one of Philadelphia’s largest universities. He had planned to major in Business Engineering and thought he’d enjoy the big-school feel, but like many students, John found it wasn’t the best learning environment for him.
After taking some time off from school to work full-time, John found a perfect fit nearly a year later when he enrolled at Delaware County Community College.
John’s experience at Delaware County was better from the start because he decided on a major that was a better fit for who he was, what he was interested in and where his talents lied.
“My mother always told me that I was good with numbers. So, when I was debating what I wanted to study when I went back to college, she was the main influence for me to declare an Accounting Major,” explains John. “It’s been a lot better of an experience since it’s always been a strength of mine. It comes naturally.”
As John was wrapping up his associate degree in 2015, he began looking at other schools to continue his education at and earn his bachelor’s degree. He knew he wanted to find a school similar to Delaware County, with the small class sizes and the flexibility to work full-time.
John Cusato found Peirce College.
Still working full-time as a Manager at ACME Market in Ridley Township, John was able to enroll at Peirce knowing he could pursue his next degree and maintain the balance. He says he plans to pursue a career in accounting, but knows he can always apply accounting principles to his work even if he stays in management.
What John really wants to do, however, is start his own business. “One thing I know for sure, and I’d also say to any adult considering college, is to just go for it. I won’t overthink it because I know I can put in the work and achieve it.”
Despite attending school two nights a week while working full-time, John still gets a little free time to himself. He loves spending time on his many hobbies. He’s a musician who loves the keyboard and wants to take up the bass; he plays video games with friends; and he always makes sure to carve out time to stay current on Philadelphia sports, especially the Flyers. Peirce College commends Delaware County Community College on providing John with a wonderful educational foundation, and wishes him luck on his path to earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 2018.
