Watch for new improvements to student support services thanks to US Department of Education’s PBI grant program
Have you ever visited the Walker Center for Academic Excellence or talked to your academic advisor? Attended a career development workshop or signed up for a tutoring session? Maybe you’ve worked through our co-op or work study programs?
If you answered yes to any of the above, you’ve used the student support services available here at Peirce. And we have some exciting news for those services.
We recently received a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education through the Predominantly Black Institutions (PBI) program. PBI grants help institutions by giving them resources to develop and implement projects that support students and increase access to education.
A great education goes beyond the classroom (or online classroom!), and this grant gives us more ways to increase our students’ chances of success. We know that the right support can help students overcome obstacles that might otherwise prevent them from completing their degree — an understanding that drives everything we do here at Peirce.
The federal funds will allow us to enhance the many student support services we offer, enriching everything from the Walker Center to our computer labs. Students will benefit from additional emphasis on academic advising, orientation programs, and enhanced student services in the areas of tutoring, technology, and instructional aides.
We are excited to put the PBI grant to use and continue to find ways to best support our students in everything we do.
What support services have helped you the most? We’d love to hear about your experiences in the comment section below.
