Health Information Management field a focus at Team Talks and Hill Day on Capitol Hill
I had the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. this spring with the AHIMA for its 2011 Team Talks and Hill Day. The day was spent discussing issues shaping the healthcare industry and the Health Information Management (HIM) field. It was an honor to be one of the five representatives from Pennsylvania to serve as an advocate for the HIM field and the future of health management.
I wrote a short article appearing in For the Record where I break down the four primary issues that are significant to the HIM profession, each of which was a focus during my time in Washington with the AHIMA:
- Promoting recognition and increasing awareness of HIM as a profession.
- Supporting workforce development.
- Protecting the HITECH funding.
- Focusing on the need for a patient identity solution.
As students prepare for careers as HIM professionals, it’s important to stay abreast of the issues shaping the healthcare arena, and contribute to the discussion with your unique expertise and point of view! Jump over to my article for more details on the four issues I listed above.
