Deadline approaching to apply for Mayor’s City of Philadelphia Scholarships to Peirce College

May 2 is the final day to submit your applications for the annual Mayor’s City of Philadelphia Scholarship Program.

Peirce supports this program by awarding two scholarships a year to City of Philadelphia employees or residents that covers full tuition and fees. So be sure to print out a copy of the application and get to work filling it out!

This is the second year of the Mayor’s Scholarship Program, which is one of the City’s many programs to help Philadelphians further their education. Peirce also support’s Mayor Nutter’s PhillyGoes2College initiative and Graduate! Philadelphia, a joint venture of the Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board and the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Mayor Nutter spoke last year at the launch of the scholarship program, where he said: “Better educated workers are an asset to developing our workforce talent while strengthening the Philadelphia region’s competitiveness and prospects for economic recovery.”

Last year’s scholarship recipients continue to show Peirce and the Philadelphia community how deserving they were of the award through hard work and dedication to their studies, careers, and communities.

Phyllis Chase was an Employee Winner of the 1st Mayor’s Scholarship. She’s worked for the City of Philadelphia for 36 years starting out at an entry-level position and rising to Director of Special Projects for the Water Revenue Bureau. Outside of work Phyllis is actively involved with her church and community.

Gregory Harris was the Resident Winner of the 1st Mayor’s Scholarship and currently works as a Revenue Investigation Manager for the Water Revenue Bureau. Outside of work Gregory provides mentoring for high school interns and youth at risk through is involvement with 3rd USCT Civil War re-enactors, a non-profit group dedicated to telling the story of the African American Civil War soldier.

He believes a degree from Peirce College will not only make him more effective at work but will strengthen his message to the young people he mentors. Gregory also majors in Business Administration and also came to Peirce in Fall 2009.
